Understanding Sustainable Product Grading

Understanding Sustainable Product Grading

2021 we embarked on a lengthy journey to ensure we embraced sustainable procurement. As part of this process, we now grade the sustainability of our products. This also enables us to become more transparent and as a B Corp Certified business we are part of the broader movement toward sustainable consumption and production of our products.

As we become more environmentally and socially conscious, the demand for transparent and reliable sustainability information is likely to grow, and we want to maintain our presence as market leaders. An effective grading system will address the greenwashing issue to maintain credibility.

As part of our Elements Partner Programme, we work with our suppliers to understand more about the product we choose to offer you. Our Sustainable product grading involves assessing and rating products based on 10 key environmental and social sustainability criteria. Our goal is to provide our buyers with information about the sustainability performance of products, allowing them to make more informed and responsible purchasing decisions.

Explaining Carbon Offsetting

Carbon offsetting is a practice aimed at compensating for the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) produced by individuals or businesses by investing in projects or activities that reduce or remove an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) or other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Our goal is to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint, where the emissions generated are balanced by the offsetting activities.

We have already achieved carbon neutrality by working in partnership with Climate Wise to offset our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and are now working on our Scope 3 assessment.

It's important to note that whilst carbon offsetting can be a valuable tool in the short term, it should not replace efforts to directly reduce emissions at the source. Long-term sustainability requires a combination of emission reduction strategies and offsetting measures.
