| Did you know it’s Road Safety Week from 15th – 21st November? |

| Not to state the obvious, but roads are literally everywhere, and we all use or interact with them many times over the course of the day, so using them safely is an important topic. |

| The aim of Road Safety Week is to inspire communities, schools and organsiations to take action on road safety and promote its life-saving messages.* |

| Take a look below at some stats and facts about roads that you may have never come across before: |

- The longest traffic jam in the UK was on the 5th April in 1985, where there was a 40-mile hold up stretching down the M1.
- The steepest road in the UK can be found in Cumbria. Hardknott Pass is at a gradient of 1 in 3 (33%). It’s not the easiest to navigate either due to its turns and drops, so may be worth taking the slower way round!
- Age is just a number, especially for this road! Dating back to over 5000 years ago, The Ridgeway is the oldest road in the UK, running from Wiltshire to Berkshire. The oldest tarmac road being 119 years old and in Nottingham!
- Would you have a family day out to your local services? If you said no then you’ll be amazed that families used to do this when they first opened!**
- You’d be using a lot of petrol if you travelled on the longest road in the world, it spans 29,800 miles from Prudhoe Bay in North Alaska to Ushaia in Argentina!+
