The FOAMO cup is a unique reusable coffee cup made from a plant based material with 70% renewable feedstock. The product has been designed to minimise its carbon impact while being easy to reuse time and time again. Utilising the latest foaming technologies the cup uses up to 50% less plastic than existing twin wall coffee cups. The foaming technology also provides the cup with a greater volume and superior insulation properties. The brand hopes to reduce the nations reliance on single use coffee cups with 1.5bn currently going to landfill each year.
The unique foaming process utilises a patented technology which was developed in the UK. The cup’s foamed wall section not only allows a 50% reduction in plastic but also acts as a great thermal barrier. By trapping heat within the foaming structure, the contents remain warm and there is no need for a thermal grip sleeve.
The product is made from a food grade polypropylene without the need for any fiddly components. These components often trap bacteria as they are difficult to wash and reduce the chances of the product being recycled. FOAMO source material from a range of waste and residue streams, for example used cooking oil which was previously destined for landfill. The lid and body are made from the same material allowing them to be recycled together by popping the item into your household recycling.
The products are proudly manufactured in Birmingham where the latest energy efficient all-electric moulding machines are powered by renewable energy. FOAMO is proud to have its manufacturing home at Tyseley Energy Park. These energy-efficient processes result in the FOAMO cup having a CO2e of less than 40g per cup. This is 20 times smaller than an equivalent reusable plastic cup and 70 times smaller than a stainless steel one.
The cup needs to be used and cleaned just three times to have a smaller carbon impact than a disposable single-use cup.
