Tiger Cotton supports biodiversity and sustainability by converting conventional cotton farming to organic.
WHAT HAS COTTON GOT TO DO WITH TIGERS?
The first Tiger Cotton® farmers lived and worked alongside the Bengal Tigers in India. Tiger Cotton® is named after them and the tiger is a symbol of the biodiversity and wildlife that regenerate when a traditional farmer converts to organic.
As all good things do, it started out as a pilot project in collaboration with WWF India and has now grown into a full scale product-line all over India. The project is continually looking for more farmers to convert and hopefully by expanding this project into other areas, the hope is they will work closely together with new groups of farmers to speed up this sustainable transition in India.
WHAT IS THE TIGER CORRIDOR?
Below, you can see a map of the first project. In between the two reserves live thousands of small cotton farmers. When a tiger wanders from one reserve to another the cotton fields are an important tiger corridor. Without the impact of pesticides which are toxic, the tiger and the wildlife alongside the farmer can thrive.
Creating a corridor where the tigers can walk between reserves, means organic farmers are playing a vital role in the conservation of this species. In Madhya Pradesh in India, Tiger Cotton has now helped 4000 cotton farmers convert to certified organic.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY?
“Sustainable agriculture plays an important role in conservation. It is an important piece of the puzzle. When farmers manage their land sustainably, they can help preserve critical habitats by improving soil and water quality. This, in turn, enhances their agricultural productivity in the long term. In this case, promoting organic cotton in areas where agriculture and biodiversity interact could create a win-win scenario for farmers and wildlife.”
- Dr. Sejal Worah, Program Director, WWF India
